A Trailblazing Advocate and Author
Essie Mae Dennis, born in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised by her grandmother and aunt in Fort Valley, Georgia, is a woman of many roles and achievements. As a grandmother, mom, and community advocate, Dennis has shown exceptional generosity and a commitment to inclusion, believing firmly that “everyone belongs somewhere.”
Dennis is the proud author of three inspiring books: Daughter of Another Mother, Loving Me: Self-Love Journal, and Why I Can’t Fly High in the Sky. Her writing reflects her deep understanding of love, self-discovery, and overcoming personal obstacles.
Her professional accomplishments are equally impressive. Dennis holds the distinction of being the first Black woman in Fort Valley, Georgia, to serve as the CEO and executive director of a company that provides supported living services. Her company offers a wide range of services, including training for the developmentally disabled, after-school program support, rental spaces for entrepreneurs, and professional training for college students in human services.
Among her many awards, medals, certificates, and degrees, Dennis takes special pride in her pioneering role in her community, continually advocating for inclusion and support for all.
